From an application perspective, Stern’s MBA program is disproportionately competitive, given its ranking. Stern’s MBA acceptance rate in 2024 was only 27%. That’s less than Kellogg (~31%) and Chicago Booth (~30%) which are both in the M7. The main reason for this is that a disproportionately high number of applicants want to live and study in New York. So, don’t treat NYU Stern as a “safety” school.
Stern’s essay questions appear on the surface quite different from those of other schools. These include backward and forward looking professional essays, as well as photos. They also ask your recommender an additional unusual question, requiring them to speak to your EQ (emotional quotient) led culture.
